Ball or roller bearing comprising balls or rollers disposed between a fixed race and a rotating race has a fixed race made of steel containing 0.35-0.55 wt.% carbon (C), 11-17 wt.% chromium (Cr) and 0.05 to less than 0.2 wt.% nitrogen (N), where the total C and N content is 0.45-0.65 wt.% or less, the HRC surface hardness after heat treatment is at least 57, and the diameter of eutectic carbide particles on at least the surface of the fixed race is 10 mu m (or less).
