The rocker arm has an elongate lever comprising valve (8) and cam (10) engagement portions mounted for rocking movement about a shaft. Each portion has a bush (12,14) rotatable about each other and the shaft. Actuable locks are provided within the space defined by the outer surface of one bush. The locks move from one position to another, either locking the valve and cam engagement portions together, or allowing them to move relative to each other. An independent claim is included for a an internal combustion engine employing the above rocker arm.
