Polypeptides that specifically react with antibodies (ABs) against Hepatitis C virus (HCV) comprise; (i) parts or the entire sequence of aminoacids (AA) 121-175, or (ii) parts or the entire sequence of AA 337-363 of the C-100-3 construct (from WO89/04669). (iii) at least parts of the amino terminus of the HCV-core region, and (iv) peptide mixts contg (i)-(iii). Also claimed are (v) DNA sequences encoding (i)-(iv) and (vi) ABs of biospecific affinity to (i)-(iv), and (vii) an immunochemical method for the detection and determn of HCV using (i)-(iv). Also claimed are; (a) mixt comprising polypeptides or modifications thereof from at least two different viral species: HIV 1 and/or HIV 2 and HCV, (b) an immunological method for the detection and/or determn in a single test of several different AB specificities; (c) a kit for the detection and/or determn of HCV ABs comprising one or more carriers with one or more epitopes of (i)-(iv) and (a), and (d) a kit for the detection and/or determn at one time of different AB specificities of different pathogens wherein one or more epitopes are fixed to one carrier.
