In landfill sites with steep walls and/or banks, a combination seal is provided, consisting of a plastic sealing web, under which is a mineral layer of a flowable and compressible curing sealing wall material (8), which can be mfd. by back-filling a formwork (21), e.g. of timber, supporting the plastic web in front of the landfill boundary. The intrinsic stability of the material is such that it exerts a supporting function. The plastic web pref. has knobs (22) formed on the side facing the sealing material and is pref. mfd. from HDPE. Sealing material pref. contains (wt.%) 2-10 hydraulic binder; 0-95 clay flour; 0-80 sand and/or gravel; 0-2 liquefier; and 0-30 water.
