Electric resistance welding of sheet metal coated with an electrically conductive layer is by means of a roller welding machine. While the machine is in operation, the thickness of the coating layer is determined at least on one side in a region before the welding zone. During welding the welding current source is controlled dependent on the coating thickness in such a way that the energy introduced into the welding zone is maintained substantially constant. Also claimed is an appts. for implementation of the proposed method.
