A method and system for administration of the character recognition of a plurality of form images with common types of data

PURPOSE: To reduce the number of format definition data sets required for processing a plurality of format types provided with a plurality of common data types by a character recognition processor. ;CONSTITUTION: The format types of one sequence provided with one set of the data types in common are converted to a meta-format provided with all the data types arrayed in a single layout. The position of a field on the meta-format is specified by a meta-format definition data set. A single meta-format definition data set is used instead of a plurality of format definition data sets for specifying the layout of a source format type in the sequence in the character recognition processor. Thus, the need of the time consuming search of customized format definition is eliminated and the speed of a character recognition operation is accelerated. Further, by converting the layouts of field images for the respective format types in the sequence to the single layout by the meta-format, the position of the field of the meta-format is quickly decided, the need of the time consuming compression cancellation of unimportant other parts is eliminated and the speed of the compression cancellation of the meaningful part of compression format images is accelerated.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
