The present invention relates to a new of flames or fire extinguishing composition comprising a mixture of salts of the sole, as well as a method of use of the new combination of said compositions with water for extinguishing fires class b and c, which are difficult to extinguish. The flame extinguishing composition comprises a mixture of at least two salts i and ii, the salt is chosen from the group consisting of bicarbonate or sodium or potassium carbonate and the salt (ii) is chosen from the group consisting of chloride, sulfate or sodium or potassium tartrate, the mixture having a melting point of minimum single. It has been found that the composition, when it was applied in the form of a combination with water, gives excellent results for extinguishing fires class b, in particular those which involve kitchens where one uses a large quantity of oil or grease, such as in the deep fat fryers.
