The apparatus has a chamber (1) in which the electrochlorination is carried out, separate from the circuit (4) carrying the water to be treated. The chamber contains a supply of sodium chloride (NaCl) used for the electrochlorination process. It also extracts NaCl from the water being treated and leaves it NaCl free. The chamber is connected to the water supply circuit through a single aperture (2) which keeps it under pressure and allows water in at a rate compatible with the production and removal of gases (7), and as there is no water circulation in the chamber this favours the migration of NaCl to the circuit of water awaiting treatment. At the same time the chamber retains impurities contained in the treated water. The chamber has a capacity of 30 liters, for example, with electrodes (3) of 20 mm diameter and 300 mm long. Used in treatment of potable water in industry, agriculture, homes, hospitals, hotels and for swimming pools.
