The speed reducer uses a free wheel (1) that is fixed to the platform (4) of the vehicle carrying the load. The free wheel can be moved from a high position to a low position and vice versa so as to come into contact with the wheel (2) of an axle in a position above and behind it by the displacement of the platform in its lower position. The displacement (7,6) of the platform is activated using a compressed air system and several free wheels can be used for multi-axled vehicles.
