Monitoring unit for a chemical or biological additive-free water purifier used to produce potable water

A water purifier monitoring unit comprises measuring devices associated with indicator lights, a safety system and a low power electronic control board. A monitoring unit, for a water purifier comprising a particle filter (4), an UV sterilizer lamp (15) and an active carbon filter (8), has: (a) a measuring system comprising a flow regulator (2), an inlet pressure detector (3), a photodetector (7), an outlet pressure detector (9) and a programmable electronic timer (14); (b) a control system comprising a green light (17) indicating good operation, a yellow light (18) indicating filter clogging and a red light (19) indicating an insufficient UV dose; (c) a safety system acting on a bistable inlet valve (1); and (d) a low power electronic board for controlling all the systems. Preferred Features: The active carbon is treated with silver (especially vacuum deposited silver to prevent metallic silver release into the treated water) or titanium oxide for generating nascent oxygen to provide a bactericidal and bacteriostatic effect. The unit has a photovoltaic generator supplying a battery (22) for powering the sterilizing lamp (15) when mains electricity is not available. Indicator lights (25-27) indicate the charge state of the battery for extending battery life, the red indicator light being actuated a certain time before complete battery discharge. An electric water feed pump is provided for use in regions where potable water and electricity supplies are not available. The unit may be contained in an attache case (28), the photovoltaic generator being deployed horizontally or at an adjustable angle while the water purifier is held vertically for immediate and convenient use. Two sterilizing lamps may be provided, one being installed within the particle filter cartridge and the other being installed within the active carbon filter cartridge.
