The sliding roof is made up of a number of parallel strips (1). A mechanism is included to simultaneously pivot the strips from a closed position where they cover the opening formed in the roof of the vehicle, to an open position where each blade is arranged at an angle to the edge of the opening formed in the roof. A second mechanism is provided to successively slide the blades from the open position so that they are regrouped at one end of the opening and partially cover it.
