Audio signals are supplied from a TV set (1) over cables to front (2) and to rear (3) loudspeakers via an SHF radio link at e.g. 5.8 GHz, in a baseband frequency division multiplex format which includes a control signal outside the audio band, e.g. at 19 kHz. The amplitude of the control signal can be varied and is detected by the receiver at the loudspeaker end to derive a level control signal to set output volume. Independent claims are included for a transmitter and for a receiver operating in the audio signal wireless communication system.
