The pipe abutment comprises a flanged socket (3) in a material able to be welded onto the pipe. The socket consists of a large diameter part (9b) forming a tulip and part (9a) of small diameter which is fitted and welded onto the pipe rear cylindrical bearing surface (8b). The tulip extends over the bearing surface to form a housing (15). A T-shaped stop joint (4) with a radial flange (14) is inserted between the abutting surfaces of two pipes within the housing.
