The automatic valve (52) for control of gas discharge is pressure controlled and is placed in the fluid discharge conduit of a refrigerator compressor (13). It comprises an immobile valve seat (53), and a mobile valve element (54). The valve element is displaced in response to a differential pressure across the valve exceeding a predetermined value. An electromagnetic drive unit is provided to exert a magnetic attraction force which constantly urges the valve element towards the valve seating.
