The pressure cooker consists of a pan covered by a lid (10) with a bayonet closure comprising lugs (4,13) with engaging surfaces on the pan rim and lid. The rim lugs extend radially outwards or inwards and obliquely downwards, and have a width-to-thickness ratio of between 8:1 and 13:1 for stainless steel pans. The lid lugs lie obliquely at an angle of 15-20 deg , and those on the pan lie at an angle of 10-15 deg to the horizontal.
