Lightweight, shaped non-metallic honeycomb structural composite with noise attenuation properties, is molded from partially- and uniformly-impregnated porous prepreg, hot-pressed to dry cloth
The woven structure is incompletely but evenly pre-impregnated with non-polymerized resin, leaving uniformly-distributed porosity. An Independent claim is also included for the method of making the material (7). A dry cloth and impregnated material (5) are brought together by rollers, under appropriate conditions of temperature, speed and pressure. Preferred features: A structural cloth is used, formed by braided fibers. The material is formed and polymerized; it has good mechanical properties. A structure employs the material as a sandwich skin. The composite has a core of honeycomb weave and a second skin of continuous composite. The structure has a noise-attenuating wall. The material is used to make a bi-layer sandwich composite with two honeycomb cores. One of the external skins is a filled composite. The porous material is covered by a decorative porous material.
