Assisted respiration apparatus comprises an inhalation branch (7) connected to first and second respiratory gas sources (T1, T2) which are linked pneumatically for at least part of the inhalation phase. Apparatus comprises an inhalation branch (7) connected to first and second respiratory gas sources (T1, T2) which are linked pneumatically for at least part of the inhalation phase, a secondary valve (10) and an exhalation valve (11) opened and closed by pneumatic balloons (12, 13) or membranes. It also has a commutation system with two solenoid valves (EV1, EV2) providing a sealed coupling between the first and second gas sources and maintaining a hermetic seal in the inhalation branch at least during the inhalation phase, and an additional branch (17) with gas ducts (1 - 5), the solenoid valves and a pilot controller (16).
