The assembly contains filaments (22) of long half-life radioactive materials comprised of metals, alloys or compounds incorporating nuclides of long half-life fission products. The filaments are surrounded by a moderating substance (24) inside sleeves (26) forming needles (20) of fission products enclosed in a tube (28).
