Preparation of indanone and thioindanone phytosanitary agents by cyclizing substituted aromatic compound in fluorinated organic sulfonic acid

The preparation of indanones and thioindanones (III) comprises cyclizing an aromatic compound (I) substituted by a chain having a carbonyl or thiocarbonyl group and a reactive functional group, the cyclization being effected in the presence of a fluorinated organic sulfonic acid. An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of (I) by acylating an aromatic compound (IV) with an acylating agent (V) having a carbonyl or thiocarbonyl group. the acylated product is cyclized in the presence of an organic fluorinated sulfonic acid.
