The float device has a float body (13), contained within a float space (4) which is coupled to the pump, operating electrical contact devices (7,8), for on-off switching of the operating current for the pump motor, dependent on the level of the pumped liquid. The float body is coupled via a latch device (14) with a lower float body (12), the latch device released to maintain the connection of the upper float body with the contact devices when the hydrostatic pressure provided by the liquid acting on the lower float body is not sufficient to maintain the connection.
