The surface is illuminated with white light, division of the reflected light into at least 4 images of different wavelength, gradual spectral analysis, narrow band filtering for each spectral channel taking account of the different reflecting powers of different skin layers and analysis of the data to provide an image representing the degree of lesion of the skin. An Independent claim is also included for a device that comprises a video recorder for analysis of images from the skin surface with a separating plate and a number of spectral channels. Each image sensor (361-364) has a corresponding band pass filter (351-354). An evaluation unit is provided for treatment of the captured data and a display unit for the areas of damaged tissue. An objective (31) captures white light reflected by the tissue and guides it to the separating plate which comprises a number of serially arranged prims (331-334) so it operates as a wavelength multiplexer to provide at least 4 images. The surface of the prisms opposed to the objective presents a layer of stopping filters. The analysis unit processes the data in a parameter space gained from the different values returned from the spectral sensors.
