The nuclear reactor vessel (1) has a curved bottom (1b) and above the curved bottom (1b) a support plate (5) of the core (8) of the reactor, in a horizontal arrangement, delimiting with the curved bottom (1b) a tank bottom space (10) and, inside the tank bottom space (10), a device (12) for tranquilizing and homogenizing a flow of cooling water from the heart (8). The stilling device (12) comprises at least one cylindrical wall (14), suspended under the core support plate (5), having an axis parallel to the axis (4) of the tank and extending over a height between 15 and 40% of the maximum height, in the axial direction, of the tank bottom space (10).
