A composite material of the carbon-carbon type for friction products is characterized in that it comprises an external friction part that contains a mixture of carbon fibres (3), powdered tar and powdered graphite and a structural part supporting the friction part and containing a pile of layers of this mixture and layers of an element chosen from the group made up of carbon fabric (4), materials previously impregnated with a carbon base and materials previously impregnated and segmented with a carbon base, arranged alternately.
