Binder for a leather finishing composition for use as a base, middle or top coat comprises an acrylic latex (I) prepared by emulsion copolymerization of radical-polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomers, one of which contains a ureido or thioureido group. Binder for a leather finishing composition for use as a base, middle or top coat comprises an acrylic latex (I) prepared by emulsion copolymerization of radical-polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomers, one of which contains a group of formula (II): X = O or S. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a leather finishing composition comprising (by weight) 2-100 parts (I) and 0-98 parts at least one other acrylic, polyurethane and/or polyurethane-acrylic latex; (2) leather coated with the composition of (1).
