Composite attachment cable for anchoring offshore marine platforms, made of tension resistant fibres set in resin assembled into sub-assemblies and coated with protective polymer sheath
Pultruded strands (5) made of tension resistant fibres set in a resin are assembled into sub-assemblies (6) and coated in a protective sheath made of a polymer (7). These are then rolled onto transport bobbins (12) and the cable (4) is made by assembling the sub- assemblies as they unwind from the bobbins and coated with an external sheath of polymer (9) The sub-assemblies are twisted as they are wound onto the bobbins, with a turn every 10m or so. The geometry of the sub-assembly is hexagonal, containing 19 pultruded strands. A flexible material (8) is injected between the pultruded strands and the protective sheath in the sub-assembly. The completed cable is wound with a twist onto another, larger transport bobbin (19), with a twist about every 15m. An incompressible lubricant (10) is injected between the sub-assemblies and the outer sheath of the cable. Means of fixing are anchored to the ends of individual sub-assemblies or groups of sub-assemblies.
