A composition for use in producing silica glass by a sol-gel process comprises: (a) silica particles, (b) a binder obtained by polymerizing a premix comprising N-methylol(meth)acrylamide as a polymerizable monomer and a crosslinking agent in aqueous solution, and (c) a solvent. Independent claims are also included for: (I) a method for producing silica glass including dispersing silica particles in an aqueous premix solution as above and a solvent to form a sol; (II) a silica glass derived from the above composition; (III) an optical fibre produced form the silica glass;
