The tissue retractor consists of a frame with adjustable jaws (17) to hold back the tissues (3, 5) on either side of an incision (1), each jaw being shaped to form a recess (19) in the saggital plane and having dimensions that allow it to be fitted under the skin when the incision is made. Each jaw has a basically T-shaped configuration, with one end (23) having a hinged or sliding fixing (26) for attaching it to the frame so it fits over the edge of the incision, and a second end (28) on the opposite side of the recess.
