A new, solid, pigment-based material (I), which is dispersible in aqueous media, is obtained by: (1) preparing a dispersion of pigment particles in a water-soluble solvent; (2) forming a thickened medium by dispersing a thickener in a solvent miscible with the solvent used in (1); (3) mixing the dispersion from (1) with the thickened medium from (2) to give a paste; and (4) drying the paste. An Independent claim is included for the above preparation method for (I).
