Decontamination of gaseous effluents, e.g. treating fumes from e.g. industrial or hospital incinerators, comprises passing effluent through bed of cylinders of densified biomass to subject pollutants to heat and oxy-thermal cracking
Decontaminating gaseous effluents comprises the use of a bed of cylinders of densified biomass, of which the combustion temperature under normal combustive atmosphere is greater than or equal to 1600 deg C. The temperature of the biomass is raised to 1800-2100 deg C and the gaseous effluent is passed through the bed. The effluent is heated and subjected to an oxy-thermal cracking of the pollutants for subsequent separation. An Independent claim is also included for the apparatus for the above process, comprising two successive beds of densified biomass.
