Drive unit of field emission type display array, has array format individual electron emitters subjected to higher strike voltage followed by lower sustain voltage with prescribed inter-pulse quiescent gaps
The array format individual electron emitters over an insulation substrate are subjected to strike voltage pulse (Va1) followed by the lower magnitude sustain voltage pulse (Va2). The pulse cycle includes a quiescent period during which the anodic excitation ceases. Similar excitation stops are introduced between the strike and sustain voltages. The insulating barrier between the individual electron emitters is prevented from injecting secondary emission electrodes. A gate pulse associated with each electron emitter cleanses the electron emitter surface during non-excitation period of the fluorescent light emitter cell, using controllable emitter currents.
