Purification of industrial effluents to remove organic and inorganic pollutants, without producing large volumes of waste sludges

Effluent is first acidified to pH 1.5 to 5.0 with hydrochloric or sulfuric acid (4) to precipitate organic material, which is removed by filtration (2). It is then subjected to two electrolysis stages (7 and 20), with the intermediate addition of a catalyst (22). The effluent is finally filtered through activated carbon (37) and neutralized (40). An independent claim is given for equipment to carry out the process.
