An apparatus for facilitating the connection of tubulars using a top drive, said apparatus comprising a motor 4 and 4' for rotating a tool (fig 2, 30) for drivingly engaging a tubular, and means 3 for connecting said motor to said top drive, the apparatus being such that, in use, said motor can rotate one tubular with respect to another to connect said tubulars. Apparatus further comprises means for enabling horizontal movement of said motor (fig 2, 31,32) and also vertical movement and compensation of said motor 23 and 24.
