Underwater erosion control mat for influencing sedimentation

A structure 60 comprising a multitude of buoyant single fronds 22 (cut slits) extending from a fan-folded polyolefin sheet 24 and secured to a flexible frame assembly 10. The fonds can be spaced by controlling means to varying distances in order to create different erosion control. An underlying geotextile liner 36 isolates bottom sediments below it. The mat's 60 location and fixed permanence are assured by a system of anchor straps 12 and multiple single-piece earth anchors 14. The anchors depend from the frame via the anchor straps 12 that are securely fixed to the frame 10, and are driven into the seabed 38 by a powered driving tool. The mat can be rolled up around a reusable spool and is easily lowered to divers for installation underwater.
