摘要

PURPOSE:To provide carbon-containing refractory composition excellent in strength and spalling resistance. CONSTITUTION:The carbon-containing refractory composition comprising carbon powder, one or more kinds of metals selected from Al, Mg, Ca, and Si or their alloy, and a refractory aggregate. The composition is compounded with a xylene-modified phenolic resin as a binder. The polycondensation reactions of hydroxyl groups and methylol groups existing in the phenolic resin enhance the three-dimensional crosslinking density of the refractory composition, and the formation of the carbon-bonded product having the high three-dimensional density in the structure of the carbon-containing refractory provides a high strength for the refractory. Since the methyl groups contained in the xylene hardly contribute to the polycondensation reaction caused by the receiving of heat, the irregular crosslinking densities are generated in the three- dimensional carbon-bonded product, thereby permitting to soften the structure of the refractory.
