PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new antibiotic substance useful as an antitumor and an antiviral agents due to its manifestation of proliferation inhibiting effects on cancerous cells and antiphage activity. ;CONSTITUTION: The objective antibiotic substance respinomycin of the formula. Properties; yellow powder. Melting point; 202°C (decomposition point). Molecular formula; C₄₃H₅₈O₁₅N₂. This compound is obtained from a culture prepared by culturing a microorganism, belonging to the genus Streptomyces and capable of producing the antibiotic substance respinomycin [e.g. Streptomyces PK-483 strain (FERM P-11622)]. The culturing is preferably carried out at about 27°C for 72hr by regulating the pH of the culture medium to neutral under aerobic conditions such as spinner culture. The objective antibiotic substance is isolated by purifying, e.g. the culture filtrate or acetone extract of the microbial cell according to combined centrifugal liquid-liquid partition chromatography, gel filtration chromatography, adsorption chromatography, etc.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
