Pulsed atmospheric fluidized bed reaction apparatus and method

A pulsed atmospheric fluidized bed reactor system and process for the combustion of, e.g. high sulfur content coal. The system affords an economical, ecologically acceptable alternative to oil and gas fired combustors and comprises a reactor vessel (10) with a fluidized bed of solids located in the lower section (12), and a pulse combustor unit (30) extending into said vessel directing a pulsating flow on said fluidized bed. The apparatus may also be employed for endothermic reaction, combustion of waste products, e.g., organic and medical waste, drying materials, heating air, calcining and the like.
