Silicon-containing compounds of formulae (I) and (II) are new. R = optionally unsaturated 1-10C alkyl, phenyl or 3,3,3-trifluoropropyl; provided that at least 80 % of R are CH3; B = R or A; r = 0-3; s = 0 or 1; provided that if s = 0, then at least one B = A; u = 1 or 2; t = 2-5; and t+u 3; and A = group of formula (III); R1 = 1-10C alkoxy, 1-10C alkyl, 2-8C alkenyl, or OSi(CH3)3; and two adjacent R1 groups may together form 1-2C alkylidinedioxy; n = 0-3; Z = H, 1-4C alkyl, C(O)XR2 or C(O)YW; X, Y = O or NR3; W = 1-6C disubstituted optionally unsaturated alkane (optionally additionally substituted by OH or optionally unsaturated 2-8C alkyl); R2 = 1-12C alkyl; and R3 = H or 1-8C alkyl; or R2+R3 = heterocycle; provided that when Z = H, X = NR3
