PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass composition for imparting antimictobial properties to polymer composite materials that can retain the antimicrobial activity at a high level of durability even when it is added in a small amount. SOLUTION: The objective glass composition for imparting antimicrobial properties is obtained by adding 0.1-5.0 wt.% of Ag2O to a glass composition comprising 30-60 mol.% of P2O5, 2-40 mol.% of B2O3 and 1-50 mol.% of at least one kind or two or more kinds of MgO, CaO and ZnO (the components for imparting the resistance to water). Since such glass composition for imparting antimicrobial properties is allowed to contain 1-50 mol.% of the component for imparting the water-resistance the resistance to water can be improved, as the antimicrobial properties are maintained at the same level of the conventional with a small addition to the material to which the microbial properties are imparted. In addition, the material sufficiently retains the resistance to detergents and particularly the antimicrobial properties are effectively sustained in the places equipped with water supply, for example, kitchen, bath room, toilet and the like.
