PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound containing an atom of group 3 to 12 in the periodic table or in the lanthanoid series and being useful as a cocatalyst component for activation, a process for producing the same, an addition polymerization catalyst comprising the compound and exhibiting high polymerization activity; and a process for efficiently producing an addition polymer comprising using the catalyst. SOLUTION: There are provided a compound prepared by bringing compounds (a), (b), and (c) into contact with each other; a process for producing the same; an addition polymerization catalyst comprising the compound; and a process for producing an addition polymer comprising using the catalyst: (a): a compound represented by the general formula: MLm; (b): a compound represented by the general formula: R1t-1TH and (c): a compound represented by the general formula: R2t-2TH2 (wherein M is an atom of group 3-12 in the periodic table or in the langhanoid series; L is hydrogen, a halogen, or a hydrocarbon group; R1 is an electron-attracting group or a group containing the same; R2 is a hydrocarbon group or a halohydrocarbon group; and T is an atom of a group 15 or 16 in the periodic table).
