PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection system of an abnormal electrode in electrolytic smelting which does not give rise to a measurement error by averting the fluctuation in sensor output by on/off of a power source switch while using inexpensive flux gate type magnetic sensors of a universal type and its system. ;SOLUTION: This detection method of the abnormal electrode in electrolytic smelting specifies and detects the abnormal position of electrode plates by alternately immersing cathode plates K on the cathode side of the conductors fixed atop both opposite side walls of the electrolytic cell and anode plates on an anode side in the electrolytic cell where the electrolyte is stored, respectively in a conductively supported state and measuring the magnetism near the contacts of the conductor and the plural cathode plates and/or the near the contacts of the conductors and the plural anode plates. In such a case, the flux gate type magnetic sensors 13 are used as the sensors for measuring the magnetism. The drive source thereof is operated as DC batteries 14a, 14b to be exclusively used by the continuous operation which does not execute on/off, by which the measurement error by the output fluctuation accompanying the on/off of the drive power source is averted.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
