PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suitably optimize the respective constituting elements of an optical thin film by using a genetic algorithm.;SOLUTION: In order to design the optical thin film constituted of plural layers by the genetic algorithm, an individual provided with gene elements for a number corresponding to the total number of the design items of the respective layers for which the integer value of a prescribed range is allocated as the variable of the respective gene elements is generated (step S1). In processings in the respective generations of the individual (step S3-S11), at the time of the evaluation of the individual, a conversion process (step S7) for converting the variable of the gene element of the individual from the integer value to the real value of the prescribed range is performed and the evaluation is performed for the individual for which the variable is converted to the real value.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
