PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the looseness of an inner shim and to reduce the mechanical noise generated from a valve gear system by preventing the abrasion of an engagement hole by fitting a guide ring made of hard metal and capable of inserting the inner shim, to the engagement hole formed on an upper surface of a central part of a retainer body. ;SOLUTION: A thin cylindrical guide ring 10 made of hard metal such as iron or the like is fitted in an engagement hole 5 of a spring retainer 2 in a state that it can not be rotated and vertically moved. An annular short inward flange 12 is connected to a lower edge of a cylindrical wall 11 of the guide ring 10, and contacted with a bottom of the engagement hole 5. On the other hand, an inner shim 7 is fitted in the guide ring 10 with proper clearance. Whereby the abrasion of the engagement hole 5 can be prevented even though the spring retainer 2 is made of aluminum alloy. Further the inward flange 12 is brought into contact with a lower surface of the inner shim 7 to prevent the guide ring 10 having a worn contact surface from upwardly slipping off from the engagement hole 5.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
