PURPOSE: To prevent a stray light from returning to a diffraction grating on account of reflecting and scattering, and from mixing with the output of a monochromator, by forming surfaces having different optical characteristics on the inner wall of an optical tube. ;CONSTITUTION: An optical tube 34 of a monochromator 30 is made of segments 36, 38 which are coupled by an elbow 39, in which a diffraction mirror 40 is arranged. An incident light 59 from a light source 44 is guided to the mirror 40. On the inner surface of a tube 34 for capturing a stray light, the following are formed; a very smoothly reflecting half-absorption surface, comparatively smooth half-absorption surface, and a roughly scattering high absorption surface. First characteristic is arranged more adjacently to the mirror 40, second characteristic is arranged in the vicinity of the outlet end of the segment 38. Third characteristic is arranged below the segment 38, thereby turning the stray light away from the diffraction grating and the outlet of the monochromator 30.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO
