PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an instrument for evaluating cardiac load of a workman with which a stable objective evaluation result corresponding to the subjective evaluation result of the degree of tension can be obtained with good accuracy in an evaluation method and an evaluation instrument which measure and evaluate the degree of tension of the workman using the beat interval data determined from the obtained heart beat signal of the work man. SOLUTION: The theme is solved by conducting respiration control through giving a respiratory control stimulating signal to the workman in a constant cycle when obtaining the heart beat signal of the workman to measure the degree of tension of the workman using his beat interval data.
