PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel subject condensed ring molecule which comprises a specific amphiphatic resorcinol cyclic condensate in which a resorcinol cyclic tetramer condenses with steroidal skeletons at plural sites and is useful as a saccharide sensor, an ion sensor and the like. ;SOLUTION: This molecule is an amphiphatic resorcinol condensed ring molecule in which a resorcinol cyclic tetramer condenses with 4 molecules of steroidal skeleton structure at four sites and is represented by formula [R3 is a group of formula II (X is H, OH, methoxy, ethoxy, acetoxy); R4 is H, alkyl, acyl]. This novel amphiphatic resorcinol condensed ring molecule is useful as a saccharide sensor, a selective sensor for a specific ion or a model molecule of naturally occurring potassium ion channel protein. This compound is prepared by reducing tricholic acid to its aldehyde form and allowing the product to react with resorcinol in ethanol in the presence of a concentrated hydrochloric acid under heating.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
