PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gage variation lock unlocking device of a variable gage truck for a railroad vehicle, the device capable of securing enough space for various devices mounted in the vehicle, by minimizing the amount by which the unlocking device enters inside a vehicle limit, even when it is applied to a Shinkansen vehicle, the device being simple in structure and excellent in reliability. SOLUTION: An engagement member 60 which engages the engagement surface 43 of an unlocking rail 40 provided on the ground G is mounted on the portion 56 of an axle end beam 50 extended downwards to near the vehicle limit L1, the beam 50 being fixed to the end of an axle 2. In the event of such an abnormality that the axle 2 does not fall relative to the axle box 1 when a gage is varied, the sliding surface 65 of the engagement member 60 slides against the engagement surface 43 and the engagement member 60 is forcibly displaced downwards, so the device is very simple in structure and excellent in durability and allows easy maintenance and inspection.
