PURPOSE: To always synchronize the node of a private remote communication network to the best usable clock. CONSTITUTION: Each node 2A-2D of a network 1 is usually synchronized by a clock signal arriving at the node from the outside through a point-to-point digital transmission link input. Two node inputs are preselected as main and backup master clock inputs and each node 2A-2D is selectively preselected as a potential supplier which supplies a clock signal to each node connected through one of the master clock inputs and the mutually connected nodes of a private network 1 decide a synchronous tree. When the clock signal is lost, the nodes reconstitute the synchronous tree so that each of the node can be synchronized to the best usable clock and information exchange is started between adjacent nodes.
