PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a luminous strain for sensing a toxic substance, more in detail, YH9-RC being a bacterium causing a change in a degree of luminescence when the strain is brought into contact with a toxic substance and to provide both a method and an instrument for examining a toxic substance by using the change in a degree of luminescence of the bacterium. SOLUTION: YH9-RC causing a change in a degree of luminescence by a reaction with a toxic substance has an accession number KCTC0730BP. This method for examining a toxic substance judges presence and concentration of a toxic substance by using a bacterium. The method for examining a toxic substance comprises adding an aldehyde as a substrate so as to make the bacterium luminous. This toxic substance analyzer comprises a specimen of a toxic substance, a bacterium which is reacted with the specimen and changes a degree of luminescence, a reactor capable of reacting the specimen with the bacterium and a light measuring instrument capable of measuring light rays emitted from the bacterium.
