PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing carbon nanotube by which formation of carbon nanotube by sublimation decomposition of SiC can be easily controlled and carbon nanotube is industrially stably manufactured in high yield and to provide a method for manufacturing porous SiC material suitable for formation of carbon nanotube by the sublimation decomposition and the porous SiC material manufactured thereby. SOLUTION: Fine pores of a porous carbon material are impregnated with Si and are subjected to heat treatment to form the porous SiC material. Carbon nanotube is formed by sublimation decomposition the porous SiC material by heat-treatment of the porous SiC material under vacuum. Typically carbonized timber is used as the porous carbon material and the fine pores correspond to timber conduits.
