PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently refining an unused magnesium silicate ore by removing the carbonate-base impurity in the ore with an acid. SOLUTION: When a magnesium silicate ore containing carbonates as impurities is refined with an acid, an alkali halide solution is added to a solvent to prevent the magnesium silicate from being damaged, the 0.2-4.5 N acid is used in the amount equivalent to that of the carbonates to be dissolved, and the titration rate of the acid is controlled to =1/100 of the necessary equivalent per minute to reduce the damage. Consequently, the damage to the magnesium silicate is prevented, the dissolution of the carbonate-base impurities is promoted, and the magnesium silicate ore is efficiently refined.
